Writer's picture: Mental Health MattersMental Health Matters

When emotional development is affected through psychological intervention namely through the misuse of language, creating negative neural pathways of self-talk, the repercussions can branch out into the rest of the child’s development.

This can have far reaching consequences throughout adolescence and adulthood. Potentially damaging the healthy trajectory of the child’s development. That profound sense of safety that is critical, can be destroyed.

Negative language capable of creating doubt as demonstrated by the pattern of language used in the video at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpPz2qBpAaY&list=PL0iM2-MF5pt29XKZWMTN9De2S6LnE-7HA&index=9&t=0s can potentially impact upon the following:

  1. · The ability to objectively weigh up and take calculated risks throughout life

  2. · Compromise the balanced quality of constructive interpersonal reflection

  3. · Start a negative dialogue within the child’s mind creating an underlying sense of worthlessness and self-doubt - overriding that key point of safety

  4. · Detract from the willingness to try. Over time this will impact upon the quality of employing the learning zone throughout their life.
